What is a cold chamber?

The whole-body cold chamber was originally developed by a Japanese rheumatologist. Divided into two separate chambers, the appearance resembles a large tube with only the person's head sticking out of it. Clad in bathing suits, thick socks, shoes, gloves and a mouth guard, the person exposes himself to temperatures as low as -150 °C. In an antechamber, the body is acclimatized to the freezing temperatures at -60 °C for 30 seconds before being cooled down for two and a half minutes in the large chamber. Since this is a very dry cold, one can usually withstand the temperatures well. The cold chamber is also called cryosauna (cryo = cold), ice sauna, cold sauna or cryochamber.

When is the cold chamber used?

Pain has been treated with cold stimuli for thousands of years, and this is still the case today. Cold packs, ice water wraps or cold therapy are common methods of treatment in today's medicine. Cold chamber therapy is mainly used for diseases of the immune system without bacterial cause (for example: rheumatic joint diseases, soft tissue rheumatism or Bekhterev's disease). However, cryotherapy is not only popular in medicine, the fitness industry has already turned its eye to it. The company CRYOSIZER? developed even its own method, which connects the therapy in the cold chamber with a suitable nourishing program. With an application thereby up to 800 calories can be burned and that without sporty activity and without sweating, thus the treatment is suitable also optimally around calories to burn. Also competitive athletes rely for years before and after competitions on the visit to the cold chamber to avoid muscle soreness or to increase performance .

Other positive effects:

- Improvement of cardiovascular function

- The immune system is boosted

- Sleep is improved

- Mood is improvedby the release of endorphins

This means that people can also use a cold chamber without having to go to a spa or to rehab. With the help of the CRYOSIZER® location search, you too can find a studio near you.

What are the experiences?

Not for nothing is a visit to the cold chamber so popular. Scientists at the University of Münster and Dortmund, for example, "shock-froze" 50 people for their study and then exposed them to physical stress. The result was a recognizable increase in performance. Other test subjects also speak of "a great experience" or of how "chipper" they felt afterwards. The Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen also relies on cold chamber therapy in its competitive sports. That's why they also equipped their performance center with its own cold chamber and want to promote the regeneration of their professionals.

For whom is the cold chamber not suitable?

Before exposing yourself to the temperatures, you should have a medical examination and ask if you are suitable for it. There are several aspects when cold therapy is not advisable. Among others, the following should not apply:

- Recent surgery in the heart area

- Pacemaker

- Pregnancy

- Allergy to cold

- Acute infection (respiratory tract, urinary tract)

- Severe heart diseases (heart attack, etc.)

Conclusion

For those who are in good health, cold chamber therapy has several advantages. Not only for the treatment of pain, but also as a companion to effectively burn calories, cold therapy is the right choice. Already for little money can try it once and discover the benefits for themselves. The development will continue and more studios will open, maybe soon with you - the coldest place in the world!
