Lack of exercise remains one of the biggest challenges worldwide: Around 1.8 billion people currently do not get enough exercise - and according to forecasts, this figure could rise to 3 billion by 2030. This development not only places a massive burden on healthcare systems, but also has considerable economic consequences. To counteract this trend, innovative approaches are needed to make physical activity attractive and easily accessible again.
This is exactly where EGYM comes in: The company develops intelligent, digital fitness solutions that make training more effective and motivating. In an interview with ISPO, Jan Scherzer, VP Sales DACH at EGYM, reports on how the sports industry can benefit from these technologies and how ISPO supports EGYM in establishing valuable contacts with leading partners in the fitness world.
What was the main reason for EGYM to become a sponsor at ISPO 2025 this year?
"ISPO stands for the international sports and sporting goods industry like no other brand. EGYM benefits from this strong positioning. And just like ISPO, EGYM is rooted in Munich - two successful sports brands that share a hometown. Our research also shows a strong alignment between ISPO's trade audience and our product portfolio - from digital fitness solutions to wellness and health. There is a clear overlap of interests."
Which target groups do you want to reach with this sponsorship and why is ISPO - especially in Innovation Hall B1 - the right place for it?
"Although our main focus is on business people and decision-makers, we are of course also very interested in getting in touch with trendsetters and influencers. The more people experience the benefits of the EGYM ecosystem, the more effectively we can realize our vision of transforming the healthcare system from repair to prevention. EGYM is synonymous with innovation. Since 2010, we have invested more than 130 million dollars in research and development - 30 million dollars this year alone. From high-tech strength and flexibility equipment to fully connected training surfaces, AI-powered training plans and apps for trainers and members, we're setting new standards every year. Not for the sake of innovation, but to create tangible added value for operators, trainers and trainees."
What specific goals is EGYM pursuing with this commitment - is it primarily about visibility, networking or new partnerships?
"All of the above. EGYM combines smart devices, digital apps and services with the products of over 200 connected partners - our open EGYM ecosystem. We actively invite industry players, hardware and software providers and other solution partners to join us. ISPO provides an excellent international platform to expand our reach beyond our core fitness industry events."
ISPO is a meeting place for international players - how important is the international stage for EGYM in terms of growth and expansion?
"EGYM has grown rapidly on the international stage in recent years. Today, our products and services are used in more than 40 countries. We started in the DACH region, expanded into key European markets and now have a strong focus on the US - the largest health and fitness market in the world. Incidentally, EGYM is also represented in Japan and Oceania."
What role do topics such as digitalization, health tech and corporate fitness, which are also hotly debated at ISPO, play in this context?
"These topics are at the heart of EGYM's work! Our vision of the networked training area goes back to our founding year of 2012. Today, our AI-powered EGYM Genius software creates hyper-personalized training plans - tailored to the user's fitness level, goals and available equipment. Genius is driven by more than eight billion pieces of training data and over 500 million pieces of assessment data. In parallel, EGYM Wellpass has become one of the world's leading corporate wellness platforms, with 12,000 corporate clients, 17,000 partner locations and over three million eligible employees."
What is EGYM hoping to achieve at this year's ISPO 2025 - and what are you personally looking forward to the most?
"We are looking forward to interesting encounters with innovators from the entire sports ecosystem. Personally, I'm looking forward to inspiring conversations and new perspectives that go beyond our core area of fitness."
