DRAX drives expansion in the European fitness market

4 Ratings

The European fitness market is growing dynamically - and with it the demand for innovative training solutions. In this environment, the South Korean brand DRAX is increasingly positioning itself as a technology and design provider for modern fitness and health facilities. Under the motto "Designed by Science", the company combines science-based training concepts with digital infrastructure and functional equipment design.

DRAX treibt Expansion im europäischen Fitnessmarkt voran

DRAX Inc. was founded in Seoul in 2001 with the aim of developing high-quality indoor training equipment that reproduces natural movement patterns as realistically as possible. The company was able to establish itself early on in the Asian market in particular - especially in South Korea and Japan. Today, DRAX is one of the largest fitness equipment manufacturers in South Korea and has been systematically driving expansion in the European market since the founding of DRAX Germany GmbH.

An important step in entering the German market was the acquisition of VIBRAFIT GmbH, which can look back on more than 20 years of experience in the German fitness market. This enabled DRAX not only to integrate local market knowledge, but also to utilize existing sales and service networks.

Science meets training innovation

The company pursues a clearly technology-oriented approach. Research and development have played a central role since the company was founded. DRAX received international patents and design awards for innovative training systems at an early stage. The company is particularly well known for its "MyMountain" device, a space-saving combination of treadmill and stair climber. The system enables inclines of up to 50 percent and is aimed at performance-oriented athletes as well as the therapy and rehabilitation sector.

In addition to cardio equipment, the portfolio includes numerous strength training lines - including isolateral plate-loaded systems with particularly smooth motion control. The focus is on biomechanically optimized movement sequences, high material quality and a modern studio design.

Digitalization as a strategic growth driver

A key differentiating feature of DRAX is the consistent integration of digital technologies. With the intelligent studio concept "HIRAX", the company develops solutions for partially or fully automated fitness facilities. The aim is to digitally connect members, trainers and operators and make training processes more efficient. Artificial intelligence will help to evaluate training data, automate processes and create personalized user experiences.

This approach is becoming increasingly important, especially in light of the European fitness boom. According to the latest "European Health & Fitness Market Report" by Deloitte and EuropeActive, the number of fitness members in Europe recently exceeded the 75 million mark for the first time. At the same time, many operators are increasingly investing in digitalization, personalization and innovative training offers.

The German market is also continuing to grow. According to Deloitte, the industry reached a level above the pre-pandemic figures for the first time again in 2024, with 11.7 million memberships and a turnover of 5.82 billion euros. Modern studio concepts, automated processes and hybrid training models are particularly in demand - developments from which technology-oriented providers such as DRAX could benefit.

European market offers further potential

Experts continue to see considerable growth potential in the European fitness market. In addition to established chains, international providers are increasingly expanding into Europe and investing in new club concepts and digital services. Germany is one of the most important growth markets in Europe.

This development opens up attractive prospects for DRAX. With a mix of science-based product development, smart studio solutions and modern equipment design, the company is positioning itself specifically in the premium and future-oriented segment of the fitness industry. Operators who focus on digital member experiences and efficient use of space are particularly likely to benefit from the modular concepts.

"Designed by Science" is not just a slogan, but describes the company's strategic direction: training equipment and studio solutions should be developed on the basis of scientific findings and at the same time create economic advantages for operators.
