Life Fitness | The Life Fitness subsidiary SCIFIT presents a world first with the Latitude Trainer. The model is the first device for lateral leg movement. It has been specially developed for training older people and rehabilitation patients but can also supplement the targeted stabilization training of competitive athletes.
While seated, the Latitude Trainer strengthens the hip and thigh muscles for trunk stability and the lateral movement of the legs. This activates the muscles that are left out during the elliptical forward or backward movement on conventional cardio machines. are left out. During training, the legs rotate clockwise or anti-clockwise in a circular motion. Depending on the direction, abductors- or adductor-muscle groups are strengthened. This reduces the risk of falls for older people and increases the mobility of rehabilitation patients - as well as the performance of athletes.
"The Latitude Trainer is in line with our philosophy of creating training opportunities that are not available in the traditional fitness market," says Brittany Hizer, Active Aging Director at SCIFIT. "It's an important innovation for the active aging market because it improves balance for older people. It allows them to break out of the vicious cycle of fear of falling, lack of exercise and muscle atrophy and be active with confidence."
When developing the Latitude Trainer, particular emphasis was placed on accessibility and comfort. The device has a swivel seat for particularly easy entry and exit. The legs only need to be raised five centimetres. The height and inclination of the seat can be individually adjusted for an optimum hip and knee angle. The device can also be used from the wheelchair.
