New treadmill: The Star Trac FreeRunner

4 Ratings

The heart of Star Trac's new treadmill has unprecedented, patent-pending tread/response sensitivity that is unique in the market today.

It utilizes the innovative HexDeck system. It is an aluminum surface with a proprietary hexagonal polymer suspension system. Conventional systems use MDF wood panels, they are durable but stiff. Aluminum reacts more quickly. This provides cushioning/flexibility on contact, while the polymer support keeps it from feeling bouncy. So the surface is compliant, yet firm. The result is unprecedented cushioning and responsiveness for a feel that's described as "easy on the joints" and like "running on a track."

In lab tests, the FreeRunner delivered measurably higher shock absorption than a traditional treadmill, taking into account weight and speed. And yet, it still gives the runner a responsive feel because the unique feature here is: it gives the runner what they need. The next generation of treadmills will hit the market in March 2019.
