What should be considered in the maintenance and care of a treadmill?

In the gym, equipment is quite challenged. They are exposed to the changing loads caused by the large number of different users. Treadmills are very robust and also require little maintenance, but with the right care and maintenance you can significantly increase the life of your treadmills. Here you can find outwhat you have to pay attention to.

A clean job - optical cleaning

Fingerprints, sweat and smudges are perfectly normal. The optical cleaning of your treadmills is daily - sometimes several times a day necessary and reasonable. You should therefore make sure that the frame, the display, the handles, the pedals and the running surface are cleaned with the appropriate cleaning agent. This not only ensures a clean, appealing impression for your exercisers, but also protects your equipment. That little sip of spilled drink can't cause technical damage if your equipment is cleaned regularly and thoroughly.

Don't give dirt a chance - technical cleaning

At regular intervals, you should also technically clean or have your equipment cleaned. The motor compartment, the lever groups, the guide tracks, the dust filters and the hand sensors need special care. A good maintenance includes in any case the important, technical cleaning of your treadmills and thus ensures that no errors and damages occur due to dirt in sensitive areas of your treadmill. Abrasion from the running mat and from training shoes can collect in the motor compartment and also in the console area, causing overheating and thus damage. After disconnecting the device from the power supply, the corresponding areas are usually relatively easy to access. If the technical cleaning is carried out by yourself, you should in any case follow the operating instructions of your device and adhere to the corresponding instructions.

So it runs smoothly - the right lubrication

In order for your treadmill to run quietly and gently , it is important to lubricate the relevant parts properly. Foldable treadmills have joints on the underside of the treadmill. Here the screw connections should not be tightened too much, a drop of silicone oil or Teflon spray keeps the joints of the treadmill top in shape and reduces annoying noise such as squeaking or creaking.

The running mat is in direct contact with the running deck of the device. Friction occurs here during use, which must be kept as low as possible to prevent unnecessary wear of the device. Only silicone oil may be used to relubricate the running mat, and again, care must be taken to use only products that have been approved for this purpose by the manufacturer of the treadmill. To relubricate, lift the running mat from the side and spray a thin, even film of the lubricant between the running deck and the running mat. This procedure should be carried out from both sides of the running mat. To distribute the silicone oil evenly, it is recommended to run the treadmill at a speed of 4-5 km/h. The treadmill should then be lifted a few steps at a time. It is best to take a few steps on the treadmill while doing this - this is the best way to distribute the lubricant.

Control is good - check and adjust the tension of the running mat

The running mat is an elastic element, it is always subject to some stretching when the treadmill is running. Therefore, the tension of the running mat should be checked at regular intervals and adjusted if necessary. At the latest when the treadmill falters during operation or "slips" during training it is high time for this maintenance task. To correctly readjust the tension of the running mat, the treadmill should run at slow speed. It is important to do this evenly - if the running mat runs out of the center of the running deck during re-tensioning, the tension must be adjusted accordingly.

Conclusion

With relatively few steps, which you can do yourself, you can ensure that your treadmills are always optimally maintained and improve the longevity of your equipment.
