What is vibration training and what is it good for?

Vibration training, also known as acceleration training, has been around for over 40 years - and yet it is only now that there is recent research into how effective this type of training can be. It was developed for space travel at the time. The aim was to counteract the muscle atrophy of astronauts, because muscles are quickly lost in weightlessness. In vibration training, the exercising person stands on a vibration plate, which vibrates in a frequency range of normally 30 to 50 HZ. During vibration training, stretch reflexes of the muscles are triggered, which lead to enormously strong muscle contractions. Muscle contractions in turn strengthen the performance of the muscles and counteract bone loss. With exercise on vibration plates, the muscle is first stretched, then automatically contracts and tightens again. The training is offered in many different areas. By stimulating muscle blood flow, vibration plates not only serve as an accelerator for regeneration after a workout, but can also promote rehabilitation after an accident. Training with vibration plates improves coordination and balance and is also used in competitive sports, fitness, medicine, as a preventive measure and also in the beauty sector. The aim of this type of training is to stimulate a large number of muscle fibres. It is particularly worth mentioning that the exercises penetrate into the deep muscles.

On the one hand, there are the devices that make rocking and vertical movements, but also vibration plates that only make up and down movements. With the latter, some exercisers find that this type of plate would cause nausea due to the up and down vibrations. To achieve even more intense training results, there is the option of training with dumbbells or breathing machines. Exercises with an additional active movement of the athlete intensify the training sessions on the vibration plate. It is also popular to support oneself with the hands on the vibration plates and thus train the upper body.
