Used treadmills: advantages, disadvantages and tips when buying

4 Ratings

A treadmill is the ideal fitness equipment for athletes who want to train regardless of the weather and with a controllable load level. The growing popularity of treadmills in fitness studios but also in the private sector leads to a steadily increasing demand for new and used treadmills. Here you can find out what you should look for when buying a treadmill:

Some advantages of treadmills such as the independence of season and weather or the regulation of the load by adjustability of the speed and the angle of inclination are obvious. But it is worth taking a closer look at treadmill technology. For example, the innovativeness of manufacturers has greatly advanced the treadmills of previous generations in terms of efficiency and training flexibility:

Modern treadmills have numerous functions and features that allow a wide range of training variability. For example, it is possible to simulate hill runs where the running surface inclines to the desired angle. In addition to a more intense general load, this training also increases the training of the calf muscles. Furthermore, fitness tests can also be performed, during which endurance performance is measured.

Another quality criterion for treadmills is the cushioning, which adjusts the hardness of the running surface to the weight of the runner. This allows for a workout that is easy on the joints, which in the case of high-quality treadmills even gives the runner the feeling of running on a forest floor. Furthermore, the size of the treadmill's running surface should be taken into account when buying the treadmill, as the surefootedness and thus the training comfort strongly depend on this. Another criterion is the continuous power and the strength of the motor. Here, of course, the suitable model depends on the intensity of use, i.e. whether the treadmill is used privately or professionally in the gym in continuous operation.

New treadmill or used treadmill? There are advantages and disadvantages

A significant advantage of buying a treadmill used is the significantly lower purchase price. Depending on the model, duration of use, equipment and condition, you can also purchase professional equipment from a higher price segment for a low price. Refurbished and serviced equipment from manufacturers or fitness equipment dealers are particularly suitable here. This is because, in addition to upgrading the equipment, a one-year warranty is often included.

The disadvantage of a used treadmill that has not been overhauled or serviced can be, for example, an increased susceptibility to defects. Our tip: Wear parts such as the cushioning and the running surface should still be available for the device to replace them.

It is best to inform yourself in detail on the ads on fitnessmarkt.de and ask again personally about the condition of the treadmill when contacting the seller. If you are a seller listing a treadmill, always remember to include plenty of information about the model and condition of the treadmill when you advertise.
